Why is it not possible to state the absolute location of a river?

A river continually flows, so the water travelling the river does not stay in one place in order to establish an absolute location until it reaches its destination at which point it is no longer the river. Additionally, because the river water constantly moves, erosion consistently changes the landscape of the river over time, effectively changing the location of a river.
